- This paper details the result of a project funded by EPSRC Grant EP/K002228/1 and EP/LO19469/1, and by the China973 Research Programme under Grant 2015CB251301. A new scroll-type air motor with mounted permanent magnetic spirals was designed and manufactured. The study shows that proposed magnetic scroll air motor structure has the potential to improve the energy efficiency of the air motor by up to 15% at low supply pressure. This increases the opportunity for scroll technology to be used in those applications with low air pressure operation conditions, such as exhaust energy recycling.
