- As the Senior Researcher for this five year project on John Lockwood Kipling, the three chapters I am submitting comprise of original archival, object led and collections-based research on primary sources clearly set in the secondary literature in the UK, India, Pakistan and the USA for a major publication and exhibition at the V&A - https://www.vam.ac.uk/info/research-project-john-lockwood-kipling - and BGC - https://www.bgc.bard.edu/gallery/exhibitions/72/john-lockwood-kipling . Given the chapters' integrated nature, together, they emphasise how the work of Lockwood Kipling has to be understood in visual and material, as well as textual terms. They comprise new research in museum history (through archival study on the reciprocal histories of collections and archives in Lahore, Mumbai and London), cultural history (through a study of Lockwood’s journalism over a period of 30 years and Eurocentric traditions of representation), and literary history (Lockwood’s influence on Rudyard Kipling). Each chapter has around 150-200 footnotes.
