- This two-volume facsimile edition with translation and historical/palaeographical commentary on Hebrew and Hebrew-Latin charters from Medieval England results from long-term study of original documents (deeds on parchment and wooden tallies), including many newly discovered items. A major contribution to the study of Jewish history, legal status and literacy, it includes detailed analysis of scripts and identification of individual scribes' handwritings, shedding fresh light on the use of Hebrew script in Northern Europe. It contributes to the study of the complex question of the economic, intellectual and personal contacts between Jews and Chrsitians in England, prior to the expulsion in 1290.
