- The book presents the outcome of an ethnographic study about spirit possession and trance among various religious communities in Brazil. The author conducted an in-depth empirical study with participant observation and interviews (in Portuguese) in São Paulo in 2010. The author translated the transcribed interviews and analysed them embedded in the academic discourses of study of religions (e.g., religious experience), anthropology of religion (e.g., gender), and sociology of religion (e.g., racial and social stratification). The study is therefore not only based on the collection of primary data but also looks at the material from different perspectives.
