- This is the first work in the literature to propose the use of WHO's International Classification of Diseases coding as a means of prediction of disease progression, and indeed to introduce the first method which achieves this. Its impact is readily witnessed by the follow-up work from across the globe which has since adopted the idea and developed alternative approaches, most recent ones being based on deep learning.
