- This 311pp. monograph (of 104,000 words) demonstrates sustained research effort through the presentation of a complex and original argument across nine chapters about the relationship between film stardom and classicism in early Hollywood cinema. This long-form output was dependent on a 13-year period of in-depth research. It draws on a bibliography of over 200 books and articles and involved the assessment of thousands of film fan-magazine and newspaper articles from the USA and the UK. In addition, the research involved synthesising letters, scripts, and photographs located in libraries and archives in Southampton, London and Los Angeles.
