- The detailed processes described here for removal of systematics became essential to give confidence to the extraction of the all Planck data. I was the UK Instrument lead for the Planck HFI instrument, which was integrated and tested at facilities in Cardiff and at IAS in France. I directed the experimental characterisation of the thermal time responses and beam profiles of the detectors discussed in Sections 3.3 (detector time constants), and 5.3 (sidelobes) of this paper. These were fundamental to the calibration and processing of the timeline data to extract the CMB dipole signal and separate it from foreground emission.
