- The What Works report aimed to provide a rapid review of literature that describes and evaluates the range of programmes that are available to support young people with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) in making a successful transition from school to post-16 or post-18 destinations. In doing so, it offered, for a wide audience, an understanding of what types of programmes have been employed in the past, how these programmes have been delivered, what outcomes they have achieved and how effective they have been in achieving them. The report further commented on the quality of evidence available and considered what future research needs to address.
The methodology involved searching for relevant white and grey literature using keywords such as transition, disability, learning difficulties, career guidance, supported employment and internships. We also sought input from experts in the field to ensure all relevant programmes were identified and that the review report was accurate.
The report was delivered to the Careers & Enterprise who launched the 'What Works?' series at a formal event in London in 2017 and who have since used the findings to support development of a toolkit for career guidance for young people. The report is available for download from their website, from the iCeGS website and has been posted to social media. The findings from that report formed part of the Career Strategy (2017).
