- This output is the result of research on extensive and dispersed source material. The book drew on 7 sites in the Alps (Italy, Switzerland, Austria), as well as 10 separate archival collections representing the regional diversity within this expansive geography, and its shifting political boundaries. It negotiated artworks in situ and those relocated to local museums. In synthesising primary sources with published materials running to 21 pages in the bibliography, the book combines methodologies from iconographic, geographic, religious and cultural art history to elaborate a complex thesis on the Magdalen, image transmission and intersections with the landscape.
