- This book is the outcome of substantial new research which contrasts media discourse on Europe over two decades in Italy and Britain. The foci are the key Eurosceptic triggers of the euro; the subsequent national economic crises; and immigration and it incorporates the positioning of the UK Independence Party and Italy’s Five Star Movement. It is based on interviews with journalists, politicians and civil servants from London, Rome and Brussels. Discourse analysis of The Times and Il Giornale reveals the extent to which Rupert Murdoch and Silvio Berlusconi’s own position on Europe finds a voice in their newspapers.
