- The significance lies in articulating a new research challenge for HCI, that of supporting encumbered interaction, i.e., of interleaving use of digital technologies with use of physical objects (in this case playing guitar). Its rigour lies in an insightful analysis of ethnographic field data captured from musicians. The contribution to HCI was recognised through an Honorable Mention (top 5% submissions) at the CHI conference.
