- This monograph was based on an extended research project, funded by the UK Arts and Humanities Research Council from January 2012 to January 2014, and the book itself was written between September 2014 and March 2015. The book involved a large body of research material. Forty six semi-structured interviews with prominent figures in the arts, cultural policy and cultural industries were conducted, transcribed and analysed. In addition, the team analysed hundreds of relevant policy documents. The book provides a detailed, in-depth history of the cultural policies of the 1997-2010 New Labour government and controversies surrounding them.
