- Paul Norman’s _***Click For More Information*** Reading as Performance / Reading as Composition_ is a Research Catalogue exposition published in the peer-reviewed _Journal for Artistic Research_ (issue 20, ISSN 2235-0225 in 2020). It draws on seven individually conceived artistic works (_Grieg, _ABH ist Kaputt_, _Television_, _maneuvers / groovespace_, _Swing Music_, _Pointing at Things_ and _Paganini Caprice (re-construction)_) many of which received public arts funding across Germany, Switzerland and the UK.
The experimental exposition asks for a uniquely compositional and performative engagement from the reader. It gives a personal account of Norman’s composing strategies whilst applying these same strategies to the exposition itself, thus turning the exposition into yet another performance, encouraging the reader to actively and creatively share in the author’s research journey with a shared responsibility for its narrative. The exposition thus establishes a compositional framework, which offers a deeper understanding of how decisions made in the composition process inform what is communicated in a performance.
The exposition offers an innovative way to disseminating artistic research so that the work itself and the creative process remain the focus alongside the supportive textual analysis. It presents an alternative to text-only dissemination of performative work and practice-based research more widely.
