- Middle English Lyrics: New Readings of Short Poems, co-edited with Christiania Whitehead, is a peer-reviewed collection of essays about Middle English poems that have had relatively little critical attention. Eighteen essays present analyses of individual poems, selected to illustrate a range of forms of verse produced between the thirteenth and early sixteenth centuries. Texts of the poems discussed, in some cases freshly edited, are supplied at the start of each essay, and the essays are grouped together in sections designed to highlight matters of recent critical interest. Wider contextual discussion, offered in essays at the beginning and end of the volume, covers the history of scholarship and criticism, textual features likely to be relevant to interpretation, and a number of lines of approach. The editors conceived the collection jointly, and shared the work of commissioning and editing the essays. Boffey contributed a co-authored introduction (5433 words), and a sole-authored essay (5061 words).
