- Elvis: Roots, Image, Comeback, Phenomenon was commissioned a decade ago and involved investigation of much academic and cultural material. The writer explored a vast library of printed matter and examined all of Elvis’s 31 feature films in order of release. Using such sources, different chapters carefully synthesized and evaluated a range of perspectives. The idea was to create a book progressing chronologically that explained debates about Elvis and his music. It drew on over 200 academic and popular sources, with over 600 citations and seven appendixes, one of which was a 17 page biographic timeline of over 300 entries.
