- This 500 page volume is the outcome of a 5-year project funded by AHRC (4 years) and British Academy (1 year pilot). An extended digital archive is openly available through the Archaeology Data Service. Gilchrist led the reassessment and interpretation of archaeological records and materials from 36 seasons of excavations (1904–79), including the full scientific analyses of the archaeological collections of Glastonbury Abbey by 31 leading specialists. The scale and scope of the work is demonstrated by the time commitment, the breadth of topics, and the complexity and difficulty of assessing primary sources from antiquarian excavations.
