- This paper presents a novel method to estimate joint distributions of rain fade on arbitrary heterogeneous networks of microwave telecommunications links. Conceptually, it is radically different from existing models, which are restricted to networks of one or two links and require vast amounts of data. When the new method is applied to satellite measured rain data, the performance of networks anywhere on Earth may be estimated with 500 times less computation than the best alternative method. This enables the design and optimisation of arbitrary networks where previously it was either impossible due to lack of data, or computationally prohibitive.
