- This book is the most comprehensive one-volume text on the topic of first-degree (i.e. within the nuclear family) sex in the context of the Hebrew Bible. It is the product of three years of intensive research, navigating a huge range of texts and sources (ancient and modern). Textual and semantic research required in-depth study of legal and narrative texts in Biblical Hebrew. The index of biblical references demonstrates the comprehensiveness of primary sources. The reasons and rationales for incest taboos and family dynamics in antiquity are also explored by synthesising methods across biblical studies and disciplines including sociology and psychoanalysis.
