- Double-weighted statement
- This is a seminal work in terms of its scope and rigour. It moves beyond analyses of terrorism which consider its morality, its origins, and its psychology to analyse whether it is functional in terms of avowed ambitions. Doing so, it fills a real gap in the litertature. It is a magisterial, judicious volume which is very well-researched throughout. In addition to the case studies, it highlights several other examples of the strategic failures of terrorist movements, not merely in terms of failing to realise territorial ambitions but also in maintaining their baseline goal of continuing a culture of resistance.
