- The book is the first major publication to discuss architectural conservation as a political activity –case studies based largely on Chandler’s practice and teaching unpack the cultural norms and knowledge privilege that lay behind a frequently technically framed debate on conservation.
Chandler co-chairs the RIBA Conservation Steering Committee and was responsible for RIBA developing a structured CPD programme that includes specifically the role of public engagement and political philosophy in conservation competency. This book is on the Conservation Register reading list and was abridged and presented by the author, recorded in 2020 as RIBA Core CPD (2021 podcast series).
