- This research facilitates a new generation of point-of-care diagnostic systems, enabling miniaturisation of virtually any biomedical wet assay and its integration onto a Lab-on-a- Disc (LoaD) cartridge for automated sample preparation, and analysis. Our system demonstrated high-fidelity, low-cost, automated extraction of pathogen RNA from complex biological samples. The Authors research was supported by an ongoing collaboration between NUI Galway, Tyndall National Institute and Dublin City University universities in the ROI, a highly recognised PhD project and an international patent (Publication number: 20160121329).
