- Over 5 million tonnes of plastic waste is produced each year in the UK alone, yet only 25% of it is recycled, with the rest being burnt or sent to landfill. This novel research, in collaboration with Hebei University of Technology (China), demonstrates how high-density polyethylene plastic waste can be converted into valuable carbon nanotubes and hydrogen-rich gas, using a novel two-stage (pyrolysis/gasification) chemical conversion reaction system.
