- This nine-chapter monograph intervenes in both star studies and studies in Classic Hollywood and its legacies by re-evaluating models of spectatorship established by feminist film scholars. The study draws on a wide range of primary sources and materials, and methods from visual culture, film history, film theory, and psychoanalytic criticism, to explore the oeuvres and receptions of more than eight actresses throughout the studio era.
