- With the biofuels market currently worth >100 billion US$ and projected to grow significantly by 2023, high yielding processes to access platform chemical for bio-fuel production are of great interest. This paper describes a novel low temperatures approach to produce furfuryl ethers from furfuryl alcohol in the presence of a commercial catalyst. This work is highly significant as furfuryl alcohol rapidly polymerises to worthless by-products at the high temperatures typically employed in industrial etherification protocols which impacts strongly on their commercially viability.
