- Double-weighted statement
- This book investigates modernity from the perspective of its Latin American periphery and demonstrates that decadence, seen as a symptom of over-civilisation, was at the core of early narratives of modernity. It is based on the analysis of a vast and largely understudied body of material (including periodical literature, literary works, sociological essays, criminological treatises, private correspondence, etc.) from public and private archives across Europe and Latin America (France, Germany, Italy, Spain, Argentina, Chile and Uruguay). Its argument about Latin identity reconstructs complex transnational networks. The book is proposed for double-weighting due to this extended reach and scope.
