- This monograph is the result of sustained research effort through a PhD and subsequent years of research on additional case-studies and further honing of ideas. It makes a significant contribution to the study of Victorian historical consciousness. The monograph investigates its theme in depth from two different perspectives, rigorously engaging with scholarship in both Victorian Studies and historiography. It offers a conceptual framework – applicable in both fields – for understanding the challenges involved (in any era) in narrating the recent past.
