- Visitor comments are an important form of participation and play a key role in museums' on-going transformation from collection-focused to audience-focused organisations. This paper is significant because it explores for the first time the visitor perspective on commenting in museums, rather than the museum or technology perspective. It provides insights and recommendations for researchers and practitioners who are developing commenting systems in museums, supporting practices and policies around the moderation, conservation, ownership and use of visitor comments. The paper has informed thinking at Tate Modern's interpretation team.
