- This work proposes a novel network metric for channel selection in mobile cognitive radio networks (CRNs), provides justification for its development and derives its performance characteristics. This is significant in advancing reliable communications over CRNs as a future communication paradigm because previous research had only considered channel-availability for channel selection, and because incorporation of channel-quality identified previously overlooked deficiencies in channel selection. The results had served as a basis for an international funded project on software defined networks (Malaysian Ministry of Higher Education–FRGS no. RDU190165) that impact subsequent works on industrial control networks (DOI: 10.3390/s19061395, 10.1016/j.comcom.2019.05.003).
