- Double-weighted statement
- We submit that the book by Federico Varese, 'Mafia life: love, death, and money at the heart of organized crime' (OUP, 2018) should be double-weighted. The book is the product of four years of research. The text draws upon interviews and documents collected in several countries (UK, Italy, Greece, Russia, Hong Kong, Dubai, USA, China) to paint a coherent picture of four criminal organizations and their activities globally. While the book has a coherence internal structure, several chapters could have been published as free-standing journal articles. The author decided instead to produce a single volume presenting an organic narrative.
