- This article demonstrates that the promise of a new or second Exodus does not form an integral part of the original prophecy of the Book of Isaiah. Rather, it is an important topic of literary reinterpretation, and shows how biblical history finds its way into prophetic literature. As such, the motif contributes decisively to the people’s identity and self-understanding as being the people of Yhwh. This sheds light on a key theological motif in prophetic literature and its place in the literary and theology history of the prophetic book.
