- This book represents ten years’ research. It offers an interfaith and intercultural history of the psalms, drawing on materials collected in a vast digital database. It assesses the reception history of 72 psalms (nearly half the Psalter) over 2500 years, using Hebrew, Greek, Latin, Aramaic, and Middle English texts, secondary literature in multiple languages, and considering art, music, poetry, film, liturgy, contemporary political and ethical discourse, attending to both Jewish and Christian reception. It is written for specialist and non-specialist audiences, and provides an extensive glossary of terms.
