- The book is the result of eight years of research, beginning as part of a major three-year collaborative projected funded by Humanities in the European Research Area. It treats a broad range of primary material from three countries and in four languages, from novels, films and public art to media articles, political discourse and policy documents. The book’s insights were also made possible by the interdisciplinary, multi-perspective nature of the project, which engaged theories and methods from literary and cultural, memory and urban studies and was informed by literature from political science, anthropology and history.
