- Ancestral Presence is a longer-form publication of ca. 110,000 words. The original research involved the collection and analysis of a large body of ethnographic material and analysis of a substantial body of archival material. The monograph is based on two periods of fieldwork totalling nearly two years, in the mid-1980s and in 1999. The resulting book was preceded by a number of shorter publications, while drawing on arguments presented in those essays. The extended monograph allows for a more sophisticated, nuanced, and detailed argument to be pursued, in this case of a distinctive world, cosmology and ideas of historical change.
