- This article analyses a 100 years old story, the text of which Behar discovered and whose author he identified. Behar’s article demonstrates that the story was written by the suffragist and doyen of early modern Hebrew literature, Nehama Puhachevsky. ‘Flora Saporto’’s case is not a casual omission of yet another text buried among countless others. That is so because ‘Flora Saporto’ can be conceptualised as the first feminist-Mizrahi story written in modern Hebrew. It embodied a unique feminist-Mizrahi alliance during Palestine’s late Ottoman period. So, Behar’s research has major historical significance.
