- Provides understanding of Woese et al.'s hypothesis about the transition from horizontal to vertical gene transfer, but for first time, expressed purely in terms of information-conferred advantage. Models the transition from cooperation to antagonism when species reach constraints of a joint resource; pseudo-game-theoretic payoff matrix derived from informational considerations, combining Kelly gambling and Bayesian Network formalism. Preliminary versions of this work led to an invited talk at Code Biology (Jena, 2015, http://www.codebiology.org/conferences/Jena2015/programme.html).
