- This paper used the first observation of a binary neutron star merger to make the first gravitational-wave measurement of the Hubble constant. I had proposed this method of measuring the Hubble constant in 1986, and this was the first opportunity to apply it. I was part of the small group of nine collaboration members who did the data analysis to obtain the Hubble constant and who then wrote the paper. I contributed particularly to the estimation of the inclination of the binary from the gravitational wave polarization data, and how that feeds through into the uncertainty range on H_0.
