- Double-weighted statement
- This book is the product of nine years’ worth of research, not published elsewhere. While the author published one article on Spinoza’s relation to Dutch Cartesianism in 2013, this book pursues an independent line of argument, building up an interpretation of Spinoza’s life’s work based on his relationship with Dutch Cartesianism. It is the culmination of a major research project, which involved finding, translating, and analysing a wide range of rare and unpublished sources from Dutch Cartesian philosophers, and critically interpreting the work of Spinoza and Descartes in light of these discoveries. The research began during the author's PhD.

- Additional information
- The acknowledgement section of the book mentions one pre-2014 paper which was used for the last REF, namely, 'Spinoza and the Dutch Cartesians on Philosophy and Theology', Journal of the History of Philosophy, Volume 51, Number 4, October 2013, pp. 567-588. However, the book only uses some translations of quotes from that article in chapter 4. It does not contain any other material and the book pursues an independent line of argument to the article.
