- The paper, appearing in the prestigious journal Theoretical Computer Science, is an extension of a conference paper that had received the best paper award at CiE 2013. It is a wide international collaboration, with authors from four research centres. The paper investigates four cases of generalised communicating P systems (GCPS), improving previous results, illustrating the expressive power of these devices by modelling some benchmark problems and connecting GCPS with other membrane systems. Further improvements of the results presented in the paper, as well as new connections with other models, have been considered by subsequent papers.
