- Milton was invited to act as editor of a volume covering this period (as part of a five-volume set) without any specific template. He devised the themes, scope and arguments of the book, drew up the list of chapters (and introduced to the series the idea of including three overview chronological chapters), and selected and recruited all the contributors. He also arranged and chaired a one-day symposium for contributors in the early stages to ensure agreement and continuity in coverage and definitions. He advised on and edited all the submissions. He also contributed three chapters: a 10,000-word introduction, which situates the volume within different understandings of ‘Anglicanism’ and proposes a new interpretative model (pp.1-27); a 8,000-word chapter ‘Unsettled reformations 1603-1662’ (pp.63-83); and a 8,000-word chapter ‘Attitudes towards the Protestant and Catholic Churches’ (pp.333-51). He also dealt with all copy-editor queries and compiled the index.
