- Double-weighted statement
- Big Jim Larkin is the outcome of a sustained research effort of two decades totalling 155,000 words. It entailed the extensive reading of primary sources that were scattered in archives in Moscow, New York, Washington DC, and in the UK and in Ireland. It is the first full-length biography of Larkin, and the first to give detailed consideration to his American career and his relations with Soviet Russia. This entailed extensive research on hitherto unread material in files of the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Russian State Archive for Social and Political History.
