- This 9-chapter book involved sustained research effort over a 5-year period which included a dedicated sabbatical. It required deep engagement with, and utilised the diverse perspectives of, criminal law, legal philosophy, and the philosophy of action – the latter an entirely new research direction for the author. It is the first monograph to propose a subjective account of attempting, basing this on a meticulously developed, complex, and novel explanation of the concept of intention. One reviewer said: ‘Donnelly-Lazarov challenges some giants in action theory and criminal theory.… I am convinced that this book elevates [her] to the same level.’
