- Double-weighted statement
- This is the first monograph in any language devoted to important Moroccan writer and filmmaker Abdellah Taïa. The book has resonance beyond the specific corpus studied, bringing new insights to questions of genre, developments in postcolonial and specifically Moroccan cultural expression in the 21st century, and psychoanalytical approaches to melancholy and mourning in cultural texts. Based on ‘biotextuality’ and on a psychoanalytical approach and focusing on questions of grief, nostalgia and loss, the book provides systematic coverage of Taïa’s work including the author’s writings on politics and photography. The book is enriched by a lengthy, original interview with the author.

- English abstract
- This is the first critical analysis of the work of the important Moroccan cultural producer, Abdellah Taïa. Focusing on questions of grief, nostalgia and loss, and including a long original interview with Taïa, it gives a thorough account of his literary fictions, filmic output and other works including his writings on photography. Drawing on Taïa’s political articles and social media presence, it also considers his role as a committed cultural figure. The book contributes new insights to discussions of genre, developments in contemporary postcolonial and specifically Moroccan cultural expression, and psychoanalytical approaches to melancholy and mourning in cultural texts.
