- This single-authored book is 115,000 words in length, 339 pages with 84 black & white and 444 colour illustrations. Its complete catalogue of 376 prints entailed close observation, visual and iconographic analysis and comparison of several thousand images in collections in museums and libraries in the UK and USA to chart technical developments and innovation, determine different states and settle questions of attribution. The book discusses printmaking in relation to Sandby’s other work and professional career and situates Sandby’s work and influence in the context of 18th century printmaking and the print market.
