- This 2014 paper developed a new approach to estimating Particulate Organic Matter (POM) in X-Ray CT imaged soil samples. The approach developed is non-invasive and based on identifying the appropriate grayscale range for POM as well as shape analysis. This approach is an improvement on previous destructive approaches. The paper lay the foundations for extended approaches via chemical staining to enhance contrast and better accuracy. The paper has been cited and used as a basis for further developments by leading international soil science laboratories (as recently as 2021).
