- With an inspiration to provide affordable health diagnosis/screening of retinal disease, this novel work proposed a practical application of Artificial Intelligence using smartphones integrated with a commercially available external microscope. The work sparked a flurry of activity leading to the use of smartphones in the domain of health resulting in 97 citations (Google Scholar) and one citation in the patent (https://patft.uspto.gov/netacgi/nph-Parser?Sect1=PTO1&Sect2=HITOFF&d=PALL&p=1&u=%2Fnetahtml%2FPTO%2Fsrchnum.htm&r=1&f=G&l=50&s1=10285624.PN.&OS=PN/10285624&RS=PN/10285624). The work led to invitations for keynote talks at two IEEE Sponsored conferences; 8th International Conference on Software, Knowledge, Intelligent Management and Applications (SKIMA2014) and 2nd International Conference on Innovation in Engineering and Technology (ICIET2019).
