- This is a 95,000-word study of a body of complex canonical American novels, which considers in-depth the historical traces of marginalized voices in American culture. Based on six years of research, the manuscript utilizes a unique interdisciplinary methodology—childhood studies—that offers a highly original critical intervention in the development of post-1945 American literature and literary criticism. Its exploration of multiple perspectives, particularly of women, children, and ethnic minorities, make it of interest to those in the fields of American studies, children’s literature, and gender studies.
