- This paper documents a novel, cost-effective methodology for on-rotor sensing (ORS), which decodes the instantaneous angular speed of rotors from orthogonal outputs of a single sensor, giving accuracy sufficient for reliable diagnosis of common faults in a range of rotating and reciprocating machines. The ORS methodology has resulted in invited keynote speeches at the InCome2019 and COMADEM2020 conferences, along with invited addresses at Tsinghua and Tianjin universities. It is part of a large ongoing research contract with China Ship Research and Development Academy, and features in other projects funded by the Royal Society and the Natural Science Foundation of China.
