- The primary source material presented in this volume represents the distillation of the contents of a mass of sixteenth-century manuscripts written in complex paleographical styles in Older Scots and Latin. The volume presents neglected original sources of evidence for the development of Scots law and the Scottish legal system during the Reformation, which are principally concerned with the authoritative legal judgements by which Scots consistorial law was created at common law. This primary evidence is rendered highly accessible by 30,000-words of notes introducing each piece of evidence, a 32,000-word Introduction, and a full scholarly apparatus of glossaries and indexes.
