- Based on longitudinal interview research following a hard-to-reach population over three years, supplemented by interviews with education and social care professionals, this book offers critical insights on the educational transitions of care leavers, an area previously afforded scant attention. Its distinct theoretical contribution lies in its development of Hollingsworth’s ‘Foundational Rights’ theory to articulate the state’s duties to support young people beyond the age of legal majority; and its elucidation of the ways in which policies designed to incentivise young people to pursue further or higher education privilege those already comparatively well-equipped to succeed and further marginalise the most disadvantaged.
