- An in-depth critical analysis of the natural voice movement, its history, philosophy and methodologies, this 157,000-word monograph advances a radical repositioning of the politics and aesthetics of amateur singing. An intensive and complex programme of ethnographic research conducted internationally over seven years yielded large volumes of original primary data and a substantial collection of supporting materials for the companion website. With its core arguments informed by extensive evaluation of theoretical and scientific literature from multiple disciplines (including ethnomusicology, anthropology, performance studies, cultural studies, political science, music and the brain), the book offers innovative perspectives on socio-political, educational and intercultural agendas.
